Legal Technology Core Competencies Certification Coalition Announces Firms That Have Achieved Legal Professional Certification
USA/Canada News

LTC4 logoThe Legal Technology Core Competencies Certification Coalition (LTC4™) is pleased to announce they have awarded their first Legal Professional Certifications to lawyers and legal professionals from member firms.

“We are excited to award our first Legal Professional Certifications to the individuals at these firms” says Robert Karwic, of the Certification Pod.  “Each firm took the Core competencies for the learning plans they were focusing on and trained their users to the required skills. They then evaluated the skills using their own evaluation methods. The results were submitted to the LTC4 certification pod which reviewed and approved them.”

LTC4 has published a case study from the first firm that went through the certification process Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt. The case study can be read on their website at www.ltc4.org. LTC4 is also working on a case study on the second firm to certify its Legal Professionals, Ashurst LLP.

Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt was the first law firm to complete the certification process and has lawyers that were awarded certification in the Legal Documents learning plan. Training Manager Jodie Carman worked with key stakeholders to gain internal support for the program, as a result the firm had 54 legal professionals (21 attorneys and 33 paralegals) certified in Legal Documents, 33 legal professional certified in Managing Documents and Emails and 28 legal professionals certified in Data, Reports and Exhibits. They will also soon be certified in the Client Relationship learning plan.

Ashurst LLP Legal Analysts have been awarded certification in the Data, reports and Exhibits learning plan. “In addition we have multiple firms who have started on the path to certify their legal professionals and are looking forward to announcing further certification successes in the coming months” says Carrie Kirby, of the Certification Pod.

The LTC4 certification program certifies legal professionals (lawyers and timekeepers) who have shown themselves to be competent in one or more of the LTC4 Core Competency Learning Plans. The Learning Plans are industry standard, legal technology core competencies created by law firms for law firms. The LTC4 Core Competency Learning Plans available are:

  • Legal Documents
  • Managing Documents and E-mails
  • Collaborating with Others: E-Mailing and Sharing Documents
  • Time and Billing
  • Road Warriors
  • Data, Reports and Exhibits
  • Security
  • Working with Clients (CRM)
  • Presentations

When certification is awarded the legal professionals will be provided with a certificate and logo that they may use to promote their certification and differentiate themselves in the marketplace.

The group will be conducting a webinar for non-members to learn more about LTC4 and their certification program on July 22, 2015.
