Legal software company Aderant has announced the much-anticipated release of Aderant Expert 8.1. The heart of this upgrade includes a new, revolutionary version of Expert Billing – a fully featured billing system designed to shorten the WIP to Cash cycle while addressing key challenges facing firms today such as e-billing, collaboration, AFAs and billing guidelines.
Expert Billing is complimented by a powerfully enhanced version of Paperless Billing and the introduction of two brand new mobile solutions: On the Go Billing and a WIP and A/R management tool, WIP Aware.
The need to shorten and optimize the time from WIP to cash, improve quality and accuracy, and enhance tracking and auditability are dilemmas that have challenged law firms recently. Expert Billing is a comprehensive billing application that is designed to be used in both centralized and decentralized data environments covering the entire invoicing cycle, and has been specifically created to address those challenges.

More than 50 firms participated in Aderant’s Product Innovation Committee (PIC) during development, ensuring Expert Billing addresses the key challenges and requirements facing law firms not just today, but also in the future.”
With WIP Aware, firms can radically transform their WIP and AR review processes with this mobile app designed for partners, or those teams involved with partners, in this process. Paperless Billing is an add-on to the Expert Billing product that allows users, external to the Billing Department, to review, annotate and approve prebills without directly affecting the prebill. An extension of Paperless Billing is On the Go Billing, Expert’s new mobile add-on solution that allows Billing Partners to quickly edit, review and mark-up prebills.
Significant improvements to the User Interface, MatterWorks, Design Studio and introductions of Expert Case as well as Entity Manager are also a part of the Expert 8.1 release, making it the biggest Expert release in more than a decade. “At Aderant, we are focused on how firms will work in the year 2020,” said Aderant CEO Chris Giglio, “With the Expert 8.1 release we focused on mobility, automation and collaboration – the pillars that will position law firms for success in both the short and long term.”
