Downs Rachlin Martin “Step It Up” with innovative tech skills core competency program
Global News

Capensys logoCapensys announces Downs Rachlin Martin’s continuing successful drive to improve technology competence across the firm and stay ahead of client demands. The firm was aware that attorney technology skills had become a hot topic with their clients and throughout the legal community.

IT Director Karen Norman recognized the need to show the firm’s commitment to innovation through the use of technology and she encouraged the firm to embark on a core competency and IT skill improvement program.

With the support of the Managing Partner and Practice Group representatives the firm introduced its “Step it up” program. The firm decided to introduce 2 levels of competence – Level 1 being competencies which were common to all users and Level 2 those which were aligned to jobs and roles. Using monthly incentives the firm saw a very high level of participation – 100% of staff and paralegal and 80% of associates have now completed Level 1. The firm also uses the program for new hire training ensuring that all new staff are well prepared before they join.

The firm recruited leading legal IT training company Capensys to provide tutorials, KnowledgeChecks and a Learning Management System which would allow the firm’s staff and attorneys, across 5 offices, to access the training, which would help them achieve the firm’s internal core competencies and also lead them to LTC4 certification. For just-in-time support and reference materials Capensys’ Resource Gateway was also rolled out. Future plans include the introduction of Capensys’ latest tool “LiA” (Learning in Action) which can measure multiple methods of accomplishing tasks in the firm’s own live applications.

“We were very pleased to work with Downs Rachlin Martin on their innovative “Step it up” program. Our online learning and evaluations are designed to make the implementation of core competencies and LTC4 enjoyable for the users and effortless for the Training team,” says John Attinger, Director of Training at Capensys.
