Global News

LTC4 logoThe Legal Technology Core Competency Certification Coalition (LTC4) is pleased to announce several milestones reached in the last six months of 2014 and plans for the group’s continued growth.

Since June 2014, LTC4 membership grew to over 80 law firm and law department members, with firms joining from Canada, the UK and the US. New members include Canadian firms McMillan LLP and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, US firms Thompson & Knight LLP and Dentons, and UK firms Brodies LLP and Linklaters LLP.

The group has also finalized its non-profit status and elected a board of law firm members to provide leadership as they continue in their initiative to create global, industry standards in IT.

“LTC4 has been working hard to formalize our governance structure, and we are excited to start out the New Year with a new board to continue the momentum in growth we saw last year,” says Bonnie Beuth of Ford & Harrison in Atlanta, LTC4 founding member and newly elected Chairperson of the LTC4 Board.

At the end of 2014, LTC4 also introduced vendor membership. The goal for vendor members is to offer pre-certified training to assist firms with achieving LTC4 core competency certification. Software vendors are also encouraged to join so they can ensure their applications reflect the industry standard competencies. Current vendor members include Phoenix Business Solutions, Savvy Training and Capensys (Founding Member).

LTC4 is embarking upon a busy first quarter of 2015 with speaking events, presentations and the release of additional core competencies.

The core competencies cover the main workflows in law firms such as Managing Documents, Collaborating with Others, Legal Documents, Time and Billing, Security etc. The newest e-Discovery/e-Disclosure core competency is due first quarter 2015.

LTC4 is also hosting roundtable regional events in conjunction with ILTA. The first roundtable is scheduled for February 4th, 2015 in Chicago. It will be hosted by LTC4 member firm Dentons. There will also be roundtable events in New York (February 20th), Dallas (March 18th), Washington DC (March 25th), and other cities are planned. The roundtable events are designed to promote an in-depth dialogue regarding strategies for legal technology core competencies, giving firms the opportunity to share and discuss what peer law firms are doing. Registration information and additional dates for these events can be found on the LTC4 website: www.ltc4.org.

“We are excited to be speaking at a prestigious event such as the CIO/CTO Forum and at ILTA regional events. We are grateful for the significant interest in the work we are doing, and are looking forward to sharing this with our peers,” says Robert Karwic, Director of IT Training at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in New York, LTC4 Governance Pod and Marketing Pod member.

The group is looking forward to a year of continued growth in 2015 and would be happy to provide information to firms and law departments interested in learning more about membership.
