BigHand, a global leader in voice productivity technology, today announced that it has acquired Esquire Innovations, Inc., an industry leader in legal document production software.

The acquisition will allow BigHand to combine its core workflow software with Esquire’s document production capabilities to deliver increased efficiency in legal document workflow. The total workflow productivity solution combines digital dictation and transcription from BigHand with smart templates, numbering, streamlined formatting, document renovation and styles best practices from Esquire. The two companies first partnered in August 2013, and customer response to the enhanced solution was overwhelmingly positive.

BigHand is a Voice Productivity Technology (VPT) that combines workflow digital dictation, smartphone dictation apps, digital hardware and speech recognition integration to offer the legal market a proven business application that enables lawyers to use their voice to get more done, while improving operational efficiencies and reducing overhead costs.

Esquire Innovations specializes in document automation software that enables document creation, formatting, repurposing, comparison and metadata management software applications specifically for the legal industry.

“The acquisition of Esquire Innovations just makes sense for our customers,” says Eric Wangler, president of BigHand North America. “Both companies are, at their core, dedicated to delivering tools and solutions that enable clients to achieve the greatest possible efficiencies, while delivering outstanding customer service. Beginning with our initial partnership with Esquire, we have been impressed by their products, their commitment to customer service and their leadership team. With the addition of Esquire’s document production capabilities, BigHand will continue to deliver innovative workflow efficiency software that streamlines output and empowers attorneys and law firm support staff to deliver their best work wherever and whenever needed.”

The new company will operate as a division of the BigHand Group. Ian Kujawa, currently president of Esquire, will continue leading the business as managing director. Following the acquisition, BigHand will have more than 750 U.S. law firm and corporate legal clients, with software being used by 100,000 legal professionals every day in North America. Initially, the combined company will focus on growth in the North American market with a natural expansion into BigHand’s significant international presence.

“We are confident that BigHand is the right company to take the Esquire product suite to the next level,” says Randall Farrar, founder and CEO of Esquire Innovations, Inc. “The strategic fit between the companies and their products was obvious. Equally important, I know that BigHand will be a good home for the dedicated employees and customers of Esquire.”

Jon Ardron, CEO of BigHand, comments on the acquisition that “Attorneys are increasingly demanding solutions that will help them get more done with less. Esquire’s products focus on decreasing the effort needed to consistently produce high-quality legal documents, delivering significant time and cost savings. The combination of voice productivity software and document production capabilities does exactly that – helps lawyers and staff get more done.”
