The HotDocs Group, announced that 2012 was a record year for gross revenue, recurring revenue, and new business. HotDocs, which is a platform for modeling and deploying document-generation process applications (a subset of the larger BPM movement), is foundation-layer technology for many of the world’s largest organizations, including banks, law firms, government agencies, and other enterprises in any number of vertical industries.

Capsoft UK, the largest independent distributor of HotDocs software, acquired the core HotDocs business from LexisNexis in November of 2009. Since then, Capsoft UK, located in Edinburgh, Scotland, has been renamed HotDocs, Ltd, and the business unit acquired from LexisNexis is now called HotDocs Corporation. Since the acquisition, gross revenues for the two companies have roughly doubled while profits have remained strong.

According to Russell Shepherd, CEO for both companies, growth in 2012 was achieved via major licensing deals with European banks, large law firms in North America and the United Kingdom, and new and deepening relationships with publishers and OEM partners. Shepherd pointed to dominant technology as a key catalyst for growth:  “HotDocs is the most powerful, flexible document-generation platform available and has been for many years. For large organizations faced with mission-critical document generation tasks, HotDocs is the clear choice.” Shepherd added that, in 2013, HotDocs “will launch a number of new products and upgrades to existing products, which will further cement HotDocs as the leading document-generation platform in the world.”

The HotDocs integrated stack of technologies includes a development engine (designed to allow organizations to transform word processing documents and PDF forms into powerful document-generation process applications), platforms for deploying HotDocs process apps in any environment (desktop, client/server, cloud), and various end-user technologies, including HotDocs Document Services, a SaaS application that extends powerful, browser-based document generation to small-to-medium sized enterprises.
