UBIC, Inc. participated in the recently concluded Asian Summer School in Information Access (ASSIA) 2013 held at the University of Tsukuba over three days from June 22, 2013, and presented about the company’s advanced Predictive Coding technology, CJK TAR.

The aim of this program (ASSIA) is to educate graduate students and researchers in various universities and research institutes in Asia about the latest trends in Information Access around the world.

The topics of eDiscovery and crowdsourcing gained a lot of attention as themes that have been growing in importance in recent years, and UBIC participated in a poster presentation (in English) titled “Augmenting Predictive Analytics for eDiscovery with Richer Linguistic Features.”

UBIC has succeeded in developing in-house industry first Predictive Coding technology in the world tailored for Japanese and Korean languages. UBIC has completed a series of advanced initiatives aimed at moving from research and development to applications in the information access field, including use of the new Predictive Coding technology in real-world eDiscovery projects. The presentation was a valuable forum for exchanging views with all of the participants about advanced research related to information search, text mining, and machine learning.

UBIC also opened an R&D Center in February 2013. The R&D center will fuse behavioral science (which combines cognitive psychology, criminal psychology, and sociology to observe and analyze human behavior) and information science (involving data mining, voice recognition technologies and mechanized translation) to work on research and development of UBIC’s unique technologies in the area of eDiscovery support systems.

Going forward UBIC will continue to focus its energies on the transmission of technical information in order to contribute to the development of this research field, for example by presenting the research outcomes of academic and research institutions in Japan and overseas.
