Thomson Reuters Elite Hosts Successful Jackson Reforms Summit in Preparation of Recent UK Changes
UK News

Elite logoThomson Reuters Elite successfully hosted a summit that provided insight and guidance on the effects of the Jackson Reforms, which very recently went into effect within the UK legal industry. An esteemed panel provided awareness to the cultural shift and new processes of the reforms, and an additional session showed how firms can leverage Engage™ legal project management to manage cases under this new mandate.

On 1 April 2013, the new Civil Procedure Rules began to require costs management budgets for all multi-track cases in the County Courts and the Chancery Division or the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court. Legal experts have anticipated that the new rules would impact firm profitability and firms would have new challenges accepting briefs in certain types of cases. To help UK firms understand the impact and ideas of the Jackson Reforms, Thomson Reuters Elite held a session in London combining industry thought leadership and leading firm experience.

The Jackson Reforms Summit took place 22 March 2013, at the offices of Allen & Overy. Attendees from firms ranging in size from five to 2,400 attorneys listened as experts on this topic explained and debated the impact the reforms would have from both advisory and firm perspectives. The panel consisted of representatives from Allen & Overy, Eversheds, and Mayer Brown, as well as consultants from Huron Consulting and the eDisclosure Information Project.

“The Jackson Reforms are here to stay, but their impact is still being determined. The panel of experts expressed that although aligning courts more closely to clients will have a great impact, firms that adapt can create positive long-term sustainability and even growth,” said Chris Martin, regional sales manager at Thomson Reuters Elite. “Firms with foresight, clear priorities and quality process planning will be in position to provide industry leadership in a time of confusion. We demonstrated how they can achieve this with Engage, a revolutionary legal project management solution that is designed specifically to set precise budgets and make sure everything goes according to plan.”
