iManage reveals improvements to iManage Work, iManage Share and iManage Cloud
iManage, the leading provider of work product management solutions for legal, accounting and financial services firms and the corporate departments they serve worldwide, made four significant announcements today at ILTACON 2016.
iManage has unveiled iManage Work 9.4, which the company describes as a ‘ground-up reimagining’ of its core document and email management solution. iManage believes that in terms of how professionals will create, collaborate on and govern work product, the new system represents the ‘biggest advancement in decades’.
According to iManage chief marketing officer Dan Carmel, ease of use is one of the key advantages of the new solution. ‘iManage Work 9.4 has the simplicity of consumer services like Amazon, and presents the user with powerful new views and analytics about their information that saves time, alerts users to important changes easily and streamlines getting work done – all delivered with enterprise security, governance, and scalability on a modern, web-scale platform,’ he says.
The company started developing the new experience with over 100 hours of user focus groups, watching people work with the existing system. It has a responsive interface so that people can get the same experience on a phone, tablet, or desktop. It also offers personalised search, a home page dashboard and enhanced document preview.
iManage Work 9.4 has been designed so that no training will be needed, as the firm believes today’s professional doesn’t want to sit through classroom training before they can get started. This is possible because the system can track user actions and build custom help topics for each user. Help is available in mobile, tablet and desktop views so users are never left on their own. Short video clips can be added to help topics for more guidance.
‘In technology, you sometimes have to literally rip up the old playbook and write a new one and that’s what we’ve done,’ Carmel says.
iManage has also announced important enhancements to its file sharing solution iManage Share. The company says the enhancements will streamline and improve the way professionals collaborate with clients and outside parties, and enhance the security of shared work product.
The main enhancement is that iManage Share now supports customer managed encryption keys — sometimes referred to as BYOK, or Bring Your Own Key — in which customers generate, own and manage their own encryption keys. This means files stored in iManage Share are in essence encrypted twice: first with a locally generated encryption key and then a second time by a customer generated encryption key which iManage software or personnel cannot access.
Another important change is the introduction of a new and improved user experience for external collaborators. The new user experience, introduced in iManage Work 9.4, is now fully reflected in iManage Share.
iManage Share also offers several new features designed to make it easier to work with large numbers of files and projects. Filters should enable users to get to the work product they’re looking for more quickly, and bookmarks should help them to organize the files and projects that are most important to them for easy access.
iManage is introducing a new pricing model for iManage Share that it hopes will make it easier and less expensive for customers to get started with the package. The new subscription-based pricing model gives customers the flexibility to pay based on usage while at the same time providing predictability by capping the overall annual costs.
iManage Cloud, the company’s cloud service for Work Product Management, is expanding globally as part of the company’s cloud strategy. The new data centers are intended to provide more choice and flexibility in supporting global cloud deployments of iManage Work Product Management.
iManage currently has iManage Cloud data centers both in the US and UK. The next iManage Cloud regions to be supported with local data centers will be Australia and Singapore in September 2016, with new centers to be added in the EU, Canada and South America over the next four months.
The UK’s impending departure from the EU is one factor driving this, with iManage recognising customers’ concerns about Brexit and committing to provide them with the choice of a data center location within the EU. It has also pledged to meet European privacy obligations such as the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
A new cloud-based administration console for managing and administering iManage Cloud implementations should enable customers to gain greater administrative control over their cloud operations. The console provides help desk staff or system administrators with the latest, most up-to-date information about their users and infrastructure directly from their phone or laptop.
iManage also revealed that New York-based law firm Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello P.C had decided to move from NetDocuments to iManage Work Product Management. The firm focuses on white collar defense, securities enforcement and regulatory matters. The rollout of the new solution is being led by iManage and EIM International.
