NetDocuments, the leading Software-as-a-Service document and email management provider for law firms and corporate legal departments, announced today that it will extend its Microsoft integration supporting Microsoft Flow, a new SaaS offering in Office 365 for automating workflow across a growing number of applications and cloud services.

NetDocuments’ Microsoft Flow announcement follows Microsoft’s selection and inclusion of NetDocuments into its exclusive cloud storage provider program, and is the latest example of increased collaboration and integration with Microsoft Office 365. This integration enables an individual to securely login and create/edit/save content simply from within a web browser or iOS device, eliminating the need for either the local installation of Office, or being forced to save contents in OneDrive. The integration also enables Office 365 single sign-on, streamlining the user experience and highlighting both NetDocuments’ and Microsoft’s commitment to a cloud-first approach to application development, delivery, and integration.

“Office 365 continues to gain momentum across all industries, including legal. We are excited to work with partners who are taking advantage of our investments to reinvent productivity,” said Daniel Canning, Product Manager, Office Ecosystem, Microsoft. “NetDocuments continues to leverage new Microsoft cloud services and pass along the business value they create to their customers. The integration between Microsoft Flow and NetDocuments is the latest example of their commitment to cloud-first solutions and Office 365 as a platform to enable SaaS document management. By extending their product with Office 365 and Flow, NetDocuments is showing the power of an end-to-end cloud ecosystem.”

The Microsoft Flow and NetDocuments integration automates manual repetitive tasks across the ecosystem of productivity tools and technologies to improve the lives of busy legal professionals. Microsoft Flow can detect trigger events from NetDocuments, Office 365 or other applications automatically causing actions or initiating workflows within Microsoft Flow supported apps.

“Our latest integration with Microsoft Flow further demonstrates the superior integration and user experience that can be achieved through native cloud to native cloud integration, as opposed to cloud to on-premises, or hosted on-premises, integration,” said Matt Duncan, CEO at NetDocuments.

Specific workflows for legal professionals might include:

  • For information governance purposes, the firm has decided to adopt NetDocuments as the authoritative and secure global distributed document repository. However, certain firm users are still maintaining sensitive documents in Box or Google Drive while others receive daily synchronization with Dropbox from clients. A workflow, using Microsoft Flow, can be automated so that any new or modified content in unsanctioned repositories would automatically be copied or moved to NetDocuments. This workflow enhances the certainty that matter contents are stored in the repository of record, avoiding the constant guessing of where documents are stored.
  • For compliance and security reasons, the firm decides that any terminated employee should have their NetDocuments credentials automatically removed. A Flow is setup so that any termination in Active Directory would remove the employee credentials also in NetDocuments.
  • The responsible attorney of a major client wants to automatically receive an email notification when that client name is mentioned in any document or email in NetDocuments. This automated detection is triggered not just when new documents are created for that client with the respective client ID in the metadata profile, but also from the creation of any document anywhere, mentioning the client in the document text contents, including watched repositories in OneDrive.
  • Because of email inundation, a billing lawyer wants to receive a text message when an email is received from the General Counsel of a handful of major clients. Furthermore, the billing lawyer wants to automatically file those emails in the correct NetDocuments folders. A Microsoft Flow can be created to generate a text message alert, and to automate the filing in NetDocuments upon the receipt of certain critical emails.

Combined with the recent support and integration of Microsoft Office 365 with NetDocuments, the Microsoft Flow integration positions NetDocuments as solidly aligned with Microsoft as a premier cloud DMS strategic solution for our mutual clients.

The NetDocuments Microsoft Flow integration will be presented at the ILTACON 2016 conference in National Harbor, MD on August 31, in demo room Chesapeake D at 9:00AM.
