Litéra case study: New Jersey’s Oldest Law Firm Finds New Ways to Increase Productivity and Credibility
Global News

Litera logoIn a case study released today, 169 year-old law firm McCarter & English, LLP, describes how it has optimized its Citrix environment with Litéra’s Change-Pro® and Metadact®, resulting in significantly increased productivity for legal professionals and higher efficiency for IT personnel.

Like many organizations McCarter & English found that their old software programs were having compatibility and stability issues in their new Citrix environment.  Of particular concern, the comparisons were failing frequently and metadata removal was less reliable.

“When an application doesn’t work, it puts our credibility on the line,” McCarter’s Applications Manager Joe Davis says. “That strains the relationship between our team and our clients—the attorneys, legal secretaries, and other staff we are committed to supporting.” For a company that has been building its credibility since 1844 and has a history of providing counsel to one of the fathers of modern technology, Thomas Edison, this was a serious issue.

When considering their alternatives, Davis looked to Litéra® in hopes of finding the same product quality and support they received from Innova™, Litéra’s document automation platform for templates, numbering and DocID.  He found Change-Pro TDC and Metadact did not disappoint.

“Many firms can be reluctant to introduce new technologies that would require attorneys to spend precious hours in classroom or on-the-job training,” Davis reports. “But for Change-Pro and Metadact, our attorneys and staff needed very little training, because they found the tools to be so intuitive.”

Adding further value, the reliability of the new solutions has decreased the amount of help-desk calls and increased productivity on both the legal and IT ends. “Users say that the Litéra applications simply do what they need them to do,” says Davis. “They’re not having to put their work on hold while they consult with the help desk.”

McCarter has the option of adding other content and risk management applications that are fully integrated with the three it has already implemented. “We continue to use applications from a number of vendors, but when we can head off potential compatibility issues by installing a more integrated solution set, that’s something we like to do,” Davis says. “With our implementation of Change-Pro and Metadact, alongside Innova, that’s precisely what we’ve done.”

Newark-based McCarter & English, LLP, is the oldest law firm in the state of New Jersey, and one of the oldest in the United States.  The firm employs 850 people and has offices in seven U.S. cities. It has received numerous awards for its pro bono contributions, commitment to diversity, and environmentally sound workspace practices.
