To Incubate Advanced Technology for Preventive Legal Strategies and Litigation Support
UBIC, Inc., a provider of strategic international litigation support solutions, has announced the establishment of a research and development center aimed at bolstering UBIC’s ongoing research and development efforts into new technology areas by combining behavioral and information sciences to create tailor-made solutions for Preventive Legal Strategies (PLSTM) and Litigation support.
UBIC aims to leverage its unique and advanced technological development activities to open up new markets and expand business opportunities.
Background and Objectives
The advance of information technology means businesses have much easier access to insights that can help them reduce upside risks. For instance, executive decisions can be made far more quickly through the use of business intelligence, and companies can strengthen their intellectual property strategies through in-depth analysis of patent data. Conversely, that same technological progress has increased downside risks such as information leaking on to the internet, the “globalization” of compliance breaches now that cloud computing has made IT frameworks much more advanced and complicated. The downside of which is the risk of massive bills for compensation and even enforced suspension of business.
We at UBIC have long offered clients a range of forensics, eDiscovery, patent analysis, and technology transfer solutions. Going forward, our objective is to invest the extensive experience and expertise built up overtime into R&D center to create advanced technology solutions that will benefit society at large by helping minimize both upside and downside risks.
About the Research & Development Center
The new research and development center will fuse behavioral science (which combines cognitive psychology, criminal psychology, and sociology to observe and analyze human behavior) and information science (involving data mining, voice recognition technologies and mechanized translation) to engage in R&D based on forensic technologies and generate a unique strand of business intelligence gathering methods with a behavioral science perspective. Through these activities, UBIC will endeavor to provide companies and other organizations with solutions to prevent and respond to the upside and downside risks inherent in preventive legal strategies and litigation, thus offering clients avenues to boost and/or protect their corporate value.
The new center is to be located in Tokyo, Japan with current start date of operations as March, 2013. Our team will work closely with researchers from academia and industry globally to bring in the best of both worlds to develop world-class technology useful for the society, eventually becoming center of excellence in the field of behavioral and information sciences.
