LexisNexis Launches Context: Advanced Judge and Expert Witness Analytics
Global News

LexisNexis logoLexisNexis® Legal & Professional today announced the launch of Context, a powerful, A.I.-enhanced solution that delivers insights on judges and expert witnesses to help attorneys best prepare, present and argue their case.

Context is a key component of the new Lexis Analytics™ suite of products that gives lawyers greater knowledge through data-driven insights.

Context is the first and only case-law language analytics solution in the industry. The solution analyzes tens of millions of court documents and extracts specific language that will resonate with a particular judge, including case language your judge cites most often and the rationale behind his or her rulings, to help you draft winning briefs or successfully argue motions. Context also provides detailed analyses on expert witnesses, including specific reasons why their testimony was excluded and more, so attorneys can better select and defend their expert or impeach the opposition’s expert.

“With a few keystrokes, Context delivers the critical insights and analysis attorneys need to more quickly and successfully prepare their cases for court,” said Jeff Pfeifer, Vice President, Product Management at LexisNexis. “When attorneys know what specific language a judge regularly uses, or how well an expert’s testimony will stand up to judicial scrutiny, they are empowered to argue more persuasively and effectively on behalf of their clients. Only Context delivers this level of insight, right from the very start of the litigation process.”

Context is the result of integrating industry-leading Ravel™ analytics with the deep case law and expert witness content from Lexis Advance®. Today’s launch is the culmination of more than a decade that the Context development team—attorneys, top data scientists and legal subject-matter experts—has spent creating the training data and refining the algorithms that power Context.

Some additional features and benefits provided by Context include:

  • Analysis on 100 motion types: No other resource in the legal market offers this vast motion coverage from federal and state trial courts to pinpoint specific motion grant/deny rates as well as the language judges used in granting or denying that motion type.
  • Case language and judges your judge relies on. Context gives you confidence in your argument by compiling the opinions and jurists your judge cites most frequently and delivering specific passages with no searching required.
  • Thorough expert witness analysis: Instantly gauge a witness’s credibility and track record, then dive deeper to gather intelligence on the specific reasons why their challenged testimony was admitted or excluded. Leverage the data to select the best possible expert for your cases or get insights on how to challenge your opposition’s expert. No other resource in the legal market can match the depth of expert witness content in Context or can match the technology to harvest it.
  • Deep expert witness content from the Lexis Advance service: With 38% more deposition and trial transcripts* and 65% more state and federal jury verdicts and settlements than the closest competitor, no other solution can match the depth of expert witness content in Lexis Advance.

Feedback for the new offering has been overwhelmingly positive. According to Diana Witt, Director of Library Services at Akerman LLP, some of the feedback she received included, ‘Context saves attorneys time, which saves clients money;’ and ‘Context lets you get into the mind of the judge, enabling you to write better motions.’
