Thorne Segar Solicitors of Minehead is the latest law firm to switch to SOS Connect for its next generation legal software. The integrated case and practice management system from Solicitors Own Software (SOS) will replace the previous system.

Thorne Segar’s roots in Minehead go back to 1886 when the practice was founded. In the last 20 years IT has been seen as complementary to the personalised service which the firm aims to offer. The philosophy of this LEXCEL accredited practice is one of continuous improvement which SOS facilitates through aiding the modernisation of business processes as well as improving file and document management.

Partner David Segar explains the move to SOS Connect: “People are looking for higher service levels from their solicitors. We are responding to this need in whatever ways are possible whether that be greater flexibility through longer opening hours or new systems, so we can ensure client service is the highest it can be.”

The selection process for the replacement system involved taking soundings from the market, and referencing the Law Society’s guide to software suppliers. SOS had a strong reputation which integrated into the firm’s business model with features such as the seamless integration with Outlook and the ability to personalise case management automation. “With SOS Connect we liked having both case and practice management in the one system,” said David Segar. “We were also attracted to the flexibility of SOS Connect. Not all disciplines of the firm lend themselves to full case management as not all matters can be prescriptive. SOS Connect gives us the ability to handle even the most individual cases through the system”.

Thorne Segar is also anticipating that increased efficiency in areas like time recording and faster work throughput will lead to higher levels of customer service as well as enhanced profitability.
