The Legal Forecast & Janders Dean announce partnership
Australasia News

Janders Dean logoInternational legal industry advisors Janders Dean are delighted to announce the formation of an exclusive partnership with The Legal Forecast, and the appointment of Janders Dean’s founder Justin North to the organisation’s Advisory Board.

Founded in 2015, The Legal Forecast is a non-profit organisation that encourages students and professionals in Australia to consider the role of innovation in improving the practice of law, the legal system, and most importantly, access to justice for everyday Australians.

The Legal Forecast's mission is to facilitate a conversation at the grassroots level of the legal industry regarding the future of the legal profession, and how access to justice can be improved by technology and innovation. Currently Brisbane–based, The Legal Forecast will be expanding to Sydney, Canberra and Perth in early 2017.

Most recently, The Legal Forecast teamed up with QUT Starters to create the Disrupting Law event, a legal innovation competition where more than 70 students and lawyers from 12 top law firms came together at Queensland University of Technology for a 54-hour ideation and reinvention process, pitching ideas with the potential to impact the legal field to a panel of judges including Brennan Ong (Founder of LawAdvisor) and Amelia Hodge (Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Law Society).

The Disrupting Law event was supported by a dozen leading law firms including McCullough Robertson, ClarkeKann Lawyers, King & Wood Mallesons, Ashurst, Jones Day, Blackston Lawyers, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, HopgoodGanim Lawyers, DLA Piper, Clayton Utz, Mullins Lawyers and Herbert Smith Freehills.

The organisation will be using similar such events to continue to raise awareness and funds for various charitable organisations that are focused on numerous areas including mental health.

"The intersection of innovation and law is not just about buzzwords and billing practices. It's about finding new and affordable ways to provide legal help to those who need it most in our community" said Milan Gandhi of The Legal Forecast.

“There are few that have demonstrated their true understanding of this, while also taking action to drive and support real change in the industry, with Janders Dean being one of the leaders of the few. We’re looking forward to this partnership and working together with Justin and the team” said Gandhi.

Janders Dean will provide both financial and advisory mentoring to The Legal Forecast team as they continue to grow and support their original formation goals and objectives. The team will remain a strictly independent charitable organisation.

“They pretty much had us at hello” said Justin North, founder of Janders Dean. “In a time when the industry is being swamped with fear mongering and clickbait around various transformation activities, it is rare that you come across such a well organised team of young professionals who all share such a clear vision to collectively and selflessly focus their efforts on providing benefits to others in the community.”

“We’re looking forward to working with this highly motivated and inspirational young team in the coming years. It is an exciting time for all of us, and the industry as a whole” said North.

The Legal Forecast will be announcing a number of events and initiatives in the coming months to build on the phenomenal success of the Disrupting Law event, and will also be participating in the 2017 Janders Dean APAC Legal Innovation Index and the upcoming series of Janders Dean Legal Horizons events.
