Accola, a legal technology and IT services company, today announced the release of Epona’s DMS4Legal to the North American legal industry. DMS4Legal brings the first document management system powered by Microsoft SharePoint 2010® to law firms across the U.S. The product was first released in Europe in early 2010 and has garnered much interest from firms for the functionality and capabilities it adds to their practices.

DMS4Legal is a uniquely designed document management system (DMS) for the legal industry and was developed in conjunction with lawyers to bring needed functionality to the market. The benefits of DMS4Legal include:

  • Seamless integration with Microsoft Office Suite® and Adobe® Acrobat®
  • Superior email management
  • Easy access to recently used documents
  • Search functionality by using Microsoft SharePoint Search or FAST Search Server for SharePoint
  • Automated metadata assignment
  • Automatic connection for matter files with financial management systems like Aderant Expert ™ or Thomson Elite™
  • Single view of all client or matter data from all sources

“We are very excited to be bringing our document management system to the U.S. market,” stated Eric-Jan van Alten, President of Atlanta-based Accola. “This is a first-of-its-kind product offering and we are proud to have developed a DMS that works with Microsoft SharePoint 2010. We really feel this will close the gap lawyers have been looking for and will give them the functionality they need from a document management system.”

With DMS4Legal, lawyers are able to go beyond the capabilities available in other DMS systems. They can easily search and browse through thousands of documents to access a particular document or email for a specific matter. And, matter files are easily accessible online when the attorney is out of the office.
